Welcome to the Montpelier Parks & Recreation Department!

Montpelier is a town of 4100 people in Williams County in Northwest Ohio.  Founded in 1845, the village has grown and developed over the years.  The first park was located on the village square where Town Hall now stands.  In later years, children played at a park along the St. Joseph River behind the current Fire Station on Monroe Street. In 1958 land was purchased on the south side of town along Platt Street and the Municipal Park, Public Pool, and Park Board were created.  The park system has become a vital part of our community life in Montpelier, Ohio.

The 30 acres of the of the Municipal Park include 5 baseball & softball diamonds, 2 tennis courts, 2 basketball courts, baseball & softball batting cages, a concession stand & restrooms, playground equipment, soccer fields (fall season), a shelterhouse, sand volleyball courts, the public pool, gardens, a tree grove, a children's garden, and Louden Cemetery.  The park system also consists of several miniparks, including gardens in the alleys downtown and landscaping at historic Town Hall which houses the Village of Montpelier utility and administrative offices.

In 2006 the Village of Montpelier purchased the properties where the old high school and elementary school were located after the creation of our new K-12 school facilty on Brown Road east of the Municipal Park.  The high school site has been converted into a greenspace park with lawn, flower gardens, trees, and picnic tables.  In the fall of 2011 the elementary site was dedicated in honor of former elementary school principal, Bob Storrer.

We are proud to be able to offer several services and programs to the community.  Currently we offer Tot Ball, Soccer, Safety Town, Arts & Crafts, free summer outdoor movies, and a free summer lunch program for kids.  We also work with the Montpelier Public Library on their summer reading program.

We provide a location for Youth League Baseball, Girls Softball, Pony League Baseball, and Church League Softball to play.  In addition, the pool and shelterhouse may be rented out during the summer for private parties.  The Red Cross certified lifeguards also offer public and private swim lessons and water aerobics during the summer at the pool.

Come visit us at the park and see all that we have to offer.  We'll see you there!
